Entertainment Alternatives in North Las Vegas, NV

Being so close to Las Vegas, Nevada, North Las Vegas residents are never short of anything to do. The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is a large aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort And Casino, with the third largest tank in the United States: 1.3 million gallons of water fill the main tank. Even while living in the middle of the desert, you can still fully experience the beauty of the ocean: The 'Shark Tunnel' allows you to walk along the bottom of the main tank, the glass walls and ceiling allowing a full view of the beautiful ocean scenes. This is just one of the examples of entertainment put on by the many casinos and resorts, each of which is an absolutely astounding sight to see.

For the lighter tastes of entertainment and sightseeing, the Hoover Dam is 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, and an awe-inspiring sight, with tours avaliable of the inner workings. Lake Mead, held in place by the dam, is the largest man-made lake and reservoir in the United States. The lake offers a full range of recreational activities, from swimming and boating to fishing, exploring the rocky cliffs and sandy beaches, and just relaxing on the shores. When the lake's water level drops below normal, the ruins of St. Thomas, Nevada are visible: St. Thomas was one of the communities evacuated when the Hoover Dam was completed and the water accumulated to form the lake. Scenic Airlines is a regional airline as well as a sightseeing airline. Scheduled flights travel to and from Boulder City, Nevada as well as Grand Canyon, Arizona, with the airline's hub being the North Las Vegas Airport. Sightseeing flights include the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon and Yosemite. Music festivals in Las Vegas include Vegoose, a Halloween weekend festival including celebrity impersonators, costume contests and more. Las Vegas also holds over 20 museums of varying types and has a wide range of parks, golf courses, recreational centers and more.

Las Vegas does not have any professional sports teams, cited reasons including a conflict of interest between the city and national leauges, which have strict anti-gambling policies, and the difficulty of sports to compete with other entertainment options. However, this does not mean that Las Vegas is short of sports to watch: the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in North Las Vegas hosts many automotive events, including NASCAR. The Las Vegas Bowl, a college bowl game, takes place around Christmas Day. The city hosts many professional and heavyweight boxing bouts, three rodeos, the Las Vegas Desert Classic darts tournament, the Sin City Neanderdolls roller derby, and is the home of the professional paintball team, the Las Vegas LTZ, and the amateur team, Sin City Paintball. The Las Vegas Marathon, one of the oldest marathons in the United States, takes place in January and is one of the rare occasions that the Las Vegas Strip is closed to traffic.

There is no shortage of things to see and do in Las Vegas. Even living here, you will never be bored, with the ever-changing city and the fabulous shows presented by many of its establishments offering hundreds of options.
